“They told us we were healthy, which is good to hear,” Beverly Siemans said. “For our age group, we’re really healthy.” The Siemans, both in their 60s, arrived at the SmartCare “Know Your Numbers” event on Monday, Feb. 18, to learn their respective blood pressures, glucose levels, body mass index and body fat percentage. The event continues through Feb. 24 at the SmartCare Family Medical Center inside Wal-Mart at 7455 W. Colfax Ave. All Lakewood residents are invited to get a free screening to identify possible health problems and better understand their wellness.
SmartCare Family Medical Centers are offering free tests for body mass index, body fat percentage, blood pressure and glucose Feb. 18 to 24 as part of their “Know your Numbers” challenge.
As part of their challenge, metro area mayors, including Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer, will be going through the screenings.
SmartCare operates walk-in medical clinics in 15 Wal-Mart stores up and down the front range, including 5640 S. Chambers Road and 6101 S. Aurora Parkway - both in Aurora.
The clinics are open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m on Sunday.

The retailer announced plans last week to open co-branded health clinics in its Supercenter stores, starting this April. Is this a great new growth strategy that will propel the company to finally fulfill its true potential? Or is it just another me-too reaction to competitive pressure from the likes of CVS (NYSE: CVS) and Walgreen (NYSE: WAG)?
Patient history
Utilizing third-party partners has helped Wal-Mart move into new business segments in the past. Its jewelry and shoe departments were originally leased operations, with Wal-Mart simply collecting rent for the use of space in stores.
