Maryland physician investor Ernest Carter bought the cash-strapped Birmingham company in April 2007. His capital infusion allowed WellSpot to reopen previously closed clinics in Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida last spring and summer. On Feb. 4 WellSpot’s corporate headquarters closed and its clinics shut down the following week. WellSpot Inc. had 10 corporate employees and two nurse practitioners in each clinic. WellSpot clinics were primarily located in grocery stores and provided medical evaluations and lab work, vaccinations, immunizations and routine physicals. WellSpot clinics provided prescription services and were open seven days a week. Source: Birmingham Business Journal
