Bi-Lo shuts down its Wellspot clinics

The clinics had been owned and operated by an Alabama company, which rented space in the stores. But the company could not find enough nurse practitioners to staff them, according to Curtis Hartin Sr., director of pharmacy for Bi-Lo.

The clinics, which offered health care for minor ailments as well as tests, immunizations and physicals while shopping and without an appointment, were popular, Hartin said. But without the staff to run them, revenue declined and they were closed in February.

Bi-Lo had 11 Wellspot clinics in the Upstate and one in Chatanooga at super stores, according to spokeswoman Joyce Smart. No decision has been made about what will be done with the space, she said.
